Short Game Schools

Case Study: Launching the 2025 Short Game Schools

Overview

In early 2025, Louis introduced a new coaching initiative: full-day Short Game Schools designed to give golfers a deep, structured, and transformative learning experience. Building on years of specialized short-game coaching, this offering delivers an immersive program focused on skill development, confidence building, and practical on-course application.

Challenge

Many golfers struggle with inconsistency around the greens. Issues often stem from unclear fundamentals, limited shot variety, and a lack of understanding of how lie, slope, and turf conditions influence technique. Traditional one-to-one lessons can address parts of this, but Louis identified a need for a more comprehensive and collaborative environment — one that could provide both technical clarity and meaningful education.

Solution: The 2025 Short Game School

Louis developed an intensive 9am–5pm coaching school, held at Surrey Golf Lab (RH8 0TU), with a curriculum engineered to build complete short-game competence. The structure includes an hour lunch break and a full progression of skill modules:

  • World-Class Setup Fundamentals
Establishing the base for consistent contact, trajectory control, and repeatable technique.

  • Flight Control
Understanding how to manipulate loft, shaft lean, and ball position to produce reliable trajectories.

  • Lie Control
Training players to evaluate slopes, turf interaction, and lie quality — and choose the correct shot every time.

  • Bunker Fundamentals
Building confidence in sand through setup, entry point control, and predictable launch and spin patterns.

  • Pitching Baselines
Creating measurable, repeatable wedges distances to improve scoring opportunities.

Implementation

The program was launched as a group-based experience, fostering not just instruction but also shared learning and peer motivation. Each participant received individual attention within the group structure, ensuring the coaching remained personal while the atmosphere remained energetic and collaborative.

Mission & Educational Impact

Louis’ core objective is that every golfer leaves the school with:

  • A clear understanding of their own technique

  • A stronger foundation in short-game theory

  • Practical tools they can apply immediately on the course

  • A deeper knowledge of how and why shots behave the way they do

  • Renewed confidence in decision-making around the greens

Rather than simply teaching mechanics, the focus is on building intelligent, versatile, and self-sufficient golfers.

Early Outcomes

Initial sessions have shown high participant engagement, stronger technique retention, and significant improvements in players’ ability to adjust to varied conditions. Feedback highlights the value of the structured format, the clarity of explanations, and the transformational impact of understanding “why” — not just “how.”
